Results of the first of several clinical studies examining the dramatic effectiveness of Visco-Elastic Transforming Serum™ with Mandelic Acid have earned acceptance for presentation at the prestigious fall meeting of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery in Boston, Mass., Sept. 23-25, 2010. The study, “Facial Skin Visco-Elasticity Measurement after Topical Mandelic Acid,” details the dramatic improvements all 16 study participants experienced in skin elasticity, firmness and line reduction after applying the unique serum developed by renowned surgeon Dr. Stanley Jacobs. Following presentation, study results will be published in the peer-reviewed journal, Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
In the premier study, patients’ skin was checked at weekly intervals with a Cutometer®, an instrument that measures skin’s elasticity and is accurate to one millionth of an inch. After just four weeks, the elastic properties of the skin were restored by 51% on average, and often by as much as 86% or more. In patients who began with good elasticity, skin firmness or tightness increased by 56% on average. These study results suggest that Visco-Elastic Transforming Serum with Mandelic Acid™ is ideal not only for the correction but also the prevention of visible signs of aging.
Dr. Jacobs, a world-renowned facial plastic surgeon, discovered his unique serum through his passion for Egyptology. After many visits to Egypt he became intrigued by a 3,600-year-old papyrus scroll written in hieroglyphics. Buried in part of the text was a recipe that promised to “transform an old man into a youth.” After an eight-year quest, Jacobs ultimately translated one key word: hemayet, which meant “bitter almonds.” It turns out the Egyptians used bitter almonds as a topical paste after many boilings and washings in the Nile, in all likelihood the reason raw bitter almonds were buried with King Tutankhamun in his tomb.
Dr. Jacobs procured the finest bitter almonds available and put them in the hands of Jules Zecchino, a New York chemist and former vice president of research and development at Estée Lauder. Zecchino discovered that the key anti-aging ingredient of the hemayet fruit is mandelic acid, among the most powerful of the alpha-hydroxy acids.
Mandelic acid became the key ingredient in Dr. Jacobs’ Visco-Elastic Transforming Serum™ with Mandelic Acid, which also contains other powerful restorative components including resveratrol, glucosamine, and licorice root. As proven in his forthcoming published clinical study, mandelic acid ensures stunning improvements in skin elasticity and firmness, softening or eliminating lines, and even improving acne and brown spots. Mandelic acid alone has minor benefits, but when acting in synergy with Zecchino’s other agents, the effects on skin rejuvenation are exceptional.
“Mandelic acid also is tolerated better by patients with sensitive skin over its competitor glycolic acid because it is a larger molecule and it penetrates [the skin] more slowly, thus resulting in less irritation,” explains Dr. Jacobs.
In the next month Jacobs and Zecchino will introduce a sunscreen and a facial cleanser containing mandelic acid.
